The Stubborn Farmer

Russell stared at Jamie, contemplating going to one of the other farmers in Flower Bud Village. Then he answered,
“It’s the best I can do.” He really was grumbling as he said it. “Crossbell’s to the north of here—a little way out from Clover Town. If you doubt my ability, let’s see you do any better there.”
Russell looked at his livestock, frowning. He really did care for them, but he could not provide. The big city had fodder, but it was much more expensive than he could afford after the neighboring ranch went out of business. The livestock he brought with him silently looked at Jamie.
“Sorry,” Russell said. “It’s a bit rough back home, so I’ve forgotten my manners.”
