The Stubborn Farmer

“You wouldn’t happen to know anything about a Goddess Tree, would you?” he asked. “Someone told me that’s why all the soil has gone bad. Frankly, I still think it’s the city being not too far off from my town.”

The blonde narrowed her eyes at him. The Goddess Tree? What…

“I doubt it myself,” he said. “It’s all I have to go on, really. The city folk don’t care what happens to my town and will gladly swallow it up along with my farm.”

otsuki-and-friends replied to your post: Opal wandered around this unfamiliar land. Somehow, she had wandered outside the Selfia Kingdom, and now she was here. She noticed a farm ahead. Eager, she ran up to it to see what it was a saw it was a small ranch that was starting to run down….

“Eh? >▽< That’s cool! Opal has a little bitty farm in Selfia like Frey-oneechama!” Opal twisted and turned and jumped up and down like the child she was. “Oh, and Opal must’ve gotten lost. I’m sorry if I bothered you… Umm…” She looked over to the plot where crops were dying. “Do you, like, need help, sir? Mama would know how to fix this place right up! It’s okay, I had trouble too ‘till I met Oneechama.”

“I’m not having trouble!” snapped Russell. “And I don’t need your help. I got things under control.” He said as he brought his hoe down once more. He did not like outsiders wanting to help him. Especially the way this one put it. He was not stupid or new to the business.

“Eek!” Opal was startled. She sniffed and could feel her throat well up and her face grow red. “Well… okay.” she sighed. Her eyes were watery. “Opal doesn’t want to be trouble. But Opal doesn’t know where she is and got separated from Oneechama…” … In an unfamiliar area with no one she knew, is all that she can do is wander?  She sniffed and rubbed her eyes, facing away from Russel with he head towards the ground. “Oneechama… has a wonderful farm and is a wonderful princess… She saved me when I could barely afford to feed Opal and her animals. Before Frey-oneechama, Opal’s only friends were the animals and a wooly plushie…” Waitwait- why was she saying all of this?

“Look, I’m sorry,” he said. “I’m just tired of being looked down on, when I doubt anyone else could do much better.” He crossed her arms and approached Opal. “And aren’t you a bit old to pretend to be princess with your friends?”

Opal noticed a man looking at her like she was weird.

She walked over to the man and realized how short she was in comparison. “Hey, mister, is this your farm?”

“Yeah,” said Russell as he tilled the last bit of soil of the day. In the summer heat, he had his jacket tied around his waist by the sleeves and some of his hair stuck to his brow.  “What are you doing on it?”

((OTL I’ve never played RF. ; o ; )) Russell noticed the tresspasser on his property and stopped what he was doing. He was already a bit frustrated from his crops dying again. The river had a silver fishing rod set up to catch fish, but he had little faith in actually catching anything. Crossbell was a very depressing town for a farmer to live in.

ask-mahou-shoujo-gwen-hm:

“Oh, I never owned my own horse,” Russell said. “As I said, I would end up giving them away.” Russell looked at the green grass of Sugar Valley. “Long story short: Crossbell is not the best…

“Is that so…?” Gwen questioned slightly, already unsure of this person being around. Who knows how’d he be like and if he was a real farmer or not. In truth, she highly doubt that he was a farmer. Well, one wrong move and she was sure she’d be able to handle him. “It isn’t? You make it seem like a completely bad place in general.” And it wouldn’t surprise her if it was.

“You wouldn’t happen to know anything about a Goddess Tree, would you?” he asked.  “Someone told me that’s why all the soil has gone bad. Frankly, I still think it’s the city being not too far off from my town.”

“Have you ever considered that the Harvest Goddess may have been just throwing a temper tantrum?” asked Russell, waving his arms around. “‘Wah! Nobody believes in me! I’ll turn myself into a pouting statue until I get my believers back!’”

“If you truly believe that everything that occurs to us is because of some goddess, you are just as big of a fool as I am,” he sighed, clenching his fists.  “Whether or not she exists is not my problem. My problem is that you let the Goddess control your success. ” He turns around, a bit frustrated. “I have faith that you can raise my livestock to have a better future, but I ask you: Why do you farm? For yourself? Or for the Goddess?”

ask-jamie-hm:

thestubbornfarmer:

“I take it back,” he said. “If she really was the Goddess, she’s quite an immature one, if she does this to non-believers. So, what happened in your town?”

…STUPID! You’re so stupid!!

She doesn’t do anything to nonbelievers. Nonbelievers do it to her.

They make it so she CAN’T help them!

So I had to make a melody to show her she was still remembered.

“Have you ever considered that the Harvest Goddess may have been just throwing a temper tantrum?” asked Russell, waving his arms around. “‘Wah! Nobody believes in me! I’ll turn myself into a pouting statue until I get my believers back!’”

“Sure thing, kid,” Russell said, taking the bag. He looked around for Connies birds. When he finally found them, he crouched down and spread the feed on the floor. Despite how incompetant Jamie would think he was with animals, Russell seemed to work well with Connie’s animals. He even calmed down the pecking turkey Connie had warned him about. When he finished, he returned to Connie,

“So, unless you have anymore things for me to do, I gotta get back to my town,” he said. “Actually…” He turned to Jamie to ask her/him something.

hm-connie:

OK, then I guess i can forgive you then

Russell sighed as he finished his drink, setting it in his lap as he continued listening to the two. From the looks of it, Jamie might get to keep the animals he gave him/her. Might. Russell was still not entirely convinced. He then remembered he had to pay for his drink. He looked at the drink with a nervous look on his face. He had completely forgotten that he had less than 100 G on him, right now.

ask-jamie-hm:

(Hmph… And the apprentice doesn’t seem to be putting on a very good salesperson act. I’ll have to go over and talk to her about—)

Huh!? Wait, what are those annoying decorations!?

…!

“For the good of the shop! I bet my way will get you more customers!”

Russel nodded, taking another sip of his drink. “And while I really have no reason to do this, I guess I could stick around to oversee this,” he said. He looked around for a seat to enjoy the show. He pondered the winning and losing conditions. He already had a kicker for Jamie, but admittedly, he did have a bias for Connie. She’s a kid, he thought to himself. Let her be a kid.
